Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a new church?

In many ways we look and act like a new church, but the origins of Meadowcroft Presbyterian Church go all the way back to 1939. That is when an investment broker named John Marsden saw the need for a Bible-teaching Sunday School for children in Concordville, Pennsylvania, and decided to start one himself. From its beginning, Meadowcroft has always had a vision for teaching and discipling people in the Word of God.
Another constant in the history of the church has been dynamic change. In 1960 they were given a plot of ground on Cheyney Road, just north of Baltimore Pike, and they built their new church building. Then known as Covenant Presbyterian Church, the congregation became a part of the Presbyterian Church in America in 1982. In 2002, after increased attendance caused us to outgrow our building and property, we purchased the 11-acre Meadowcroft Farm on Westtown Road, near Cheyney University and the Westtown School. The congregation is in the process of renovating the large barn into a new worship facility. Read more about the history of Meadowcroft Presbyterian Church.

Do you have small group Bible studies?

Yes, our “Covenant Groups” are central to the life and ministry of our congregation. We currently have five Covenant Groups that meet in homes in the region, from Springfield to Kennett Square. These groups are focused on Bible study, prayer, and fellowship, and a majority of our members are involved in one of our small groups. We also have a Moms’ Playgroup, a men’s Accountability Group, and an “Over the Hill Gang” for senior members.

What are your worship services like?

Meadowcroft provides a warm yet reverent atmosphere for those who thirst for an experience of the presence and glory of Jesus Christ in worship. Sound, expository Biblical preaching brings the new life that is ours in Christ to light in an accessible way. Rooted in the Scriptures, our praise and worship blends the best of current worship music with time-tested hymns. Our worship service begins at 10:30 AM every Sunday. We celebrate the Lord's Supper on the first Sunday of each month during the morning worship service. One of Meadowcroft’s distinctives is the friendliness of its members. Click here for directions. Will my children be well cared for?

Yes! Meadowcroft provides careful, loving supervision of children in our nursery during services, and well-trained, carefully selected teachers and youth leaders. We have a sign-in and sign-out procedure and a volunteer security staff to ensure the safety of the children while we meet at Cheyney University. We envision a child's nursery experience to be a first-exposure to loving church members who seek to be an example to them of godly service to one another. Learn more here.

I have teenage children. Do you have anything for them?

Yes! We have classes, Sunday evening youth groups, and regular activities for both middle school and high school students. Our youth leaders and their team are gifted, knowledgeable in the Scriptures, and compassionate. We seek to train our young people in Biblical doctrine and a Biblical worldview, and to prepare them to serve the church and the world, as well as enjoying life in Christ’s kingdom.
