About the Barn

Meadowcroft Farm history
In 1681 the property which is now known as Meadowcroft Farm was transferred as a 1,000 acre parcel by William Penn to a colonist named John Jones. Over the past three centuries, portions of the farm were sold, but the farm remained in operation through the early 1970’s.

In 2002, Covenant Presbyterian Church purchased the remaining eleven acres of the farm. On the property today is the 300 year-old stone house; a very large, double-winged barn which was built in the early 1920’s; a tenant house; a stable, which has been converted to a home; and a garage with an apartment. The congregation uses the stone house for pastoral housing and the church offices.

In 2004 the congregation changed its name to Meadowcroft Presbyterian Church, and finished Phase I of the renovation of the barn into a worship and ministry facility. This involved stripping the building down to its stone foundation and rafters, and then replacing the roof, siding, support structure, and flooring.

Present Plans

We plan to begin Phase II of the barn renovation project in the Fall of 2007, which will involve conversion of the inside of the barn and all of the site work. Our goal is to keep the outside of the barn looking appearing as it did when it was originally built over 80 years ago. On the inside, the main level will include a worship sanctuary, classrooms, a fellowship area, and restrooms. The lower floor of the barn will eventually include a large meeting room, classrooms, and restrooms.
